High drama in Bengal Assembly: BJP chief whip Shankar Ghosh marshalled out

The West Bengal Assembly on Thursday witnessed uproar as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a fierce attack on the BJP, accusing it of being “anti-Bangla” and waging “linguistic terror” against Bengali-speaking people. During the session, BJP chief whip Sankar Ghosh was suspended and escorted out by security personnel, adding to the drama in the House.
Mamata warned that the BJP’s days in Bengal were numbered, declaring that “a time will soon come when not a single BJP MLA will remain in the state.” She accused the party of corruption, calling it a “vote-chor” organisation and a “national disgrace.”
The Trinamool Congress also moved a motion under Rule 169, condemning incidents of alleged persecution of Bengali-speaking migrants in different states.
While Mamata Banerjee was speaking, she also faced a lot of protest from the opposition due to which BJP leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Agnimitra Paul were suspended.
Earlier this week, the TMC accused the BJP of misusing power by dismantling its “Bhasha Andolan” protest site at Mayo Road despite prior permission and deposits. Banerjee criticised the move as “unethical, unconstitutional and undemocratic,” alleging that the BJP wanted to use the Army for political purposes while ignoring internal and border security.
The TMC has been holding protests highlighting alleged atrocities against Bengali migrant workers in BJP-ruled states. The political battle comes as West Bengal heads for assembly elections next year.
