  • Kolkata: Days after the commissioner of Kolkata Police, Manoj Verma, said that several long-term as well as short-term measures were taken to ensure snarl-free movement around Chingrighata, a major IT firm located in the Hatisala area agreed to reroute around 350 of its vehicles carrying employees through

, avoiding Chingrighata. Sources claimed that KP is also in talks with a leading app-based transporter to ask its Hatisala-bound vehicles to take the same route.

The police have also allowed app-based buses a wider time frame to use the Maa flyover (early morning and late evening), to cut down on private vehicles, especially two-wheelers.

"Discussions with the IT firm are now completed, and they are ready to use the Basanti Highway-KLC route. However, the roads there need to be repaired in bits and places, and streetlights need to be put up. With this in mind, we have sent letters to the local administration and relevant agencies.

Operations on the new route are expected to begin after the festival season," said a DCP.

Among other changes seen at Chingrighata are dynamic signal timings based on traffic volume at any point of the day and daily monitoring of the road surface and even the shifting of multiple shops from the all-important crossing so that extra road space can be carved out. Police said the target was to ensure that vehicles coming from Bidhannagar and from Salt Lake Bypass do not get obstructed at the crossing.
