Kolkata: Faced with the challenge of ensuring a ban on use of loudspeakers during the Higher Secondary exam — which overlaps with the festive period — Kolkata Police will hold an internal meeting with the deputy commissioners (DCs) to prepare a route map for its implementation.
Lalbazar has planned to ban the use of loudspeakers 48 hours prior to the exams, as per the directives of the Calcutta High Court. The exams are scheduled between Sep 8 and 22. Cops said it was a rare occasion, when the exams would coincide with the festive season, starting with Biswakarma Puja.
A meeting in this regard was held between Kolkata Police and the West Bengal Higher Secondary Council on Thursday.
"Besides Biswakarma Puja, there will be Mahalaya celebrations and a number of Durga Puja inaugurations during this period. We are ascertaining how we can implement this norm during this period," said a senior officer at Lalbazar.
West Bengal Higher Secondary Council president Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said they had requested cops to restrict the use of loudspeakers as far as possible.
