Woman dies in road mishap in New Town
The Statesman | 5 September 2025The incident occurred near the Biswa Bangla Crossing when the victim Banashree Pal riding on a two-wheeler was going to her office.
According to police, an airport-bound speeding government bus dashed the two-wheeler from behind and ran her over. She fell on the ground in a pool of blood and was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Police have started an investigation and the driver has not yet been arrested so far.
On Wednesday, one Subir Chakraborty also died in a road accident in the New Town area. Chakraborty, a resident of CC Block, died when the motorbike of an engineering student of a private college hit him.
The student, who hails from Howrah was later arrested.
