Times of India | 7 September 2025
Kolkata: A telecom major lodged an FIR against one of its former area sales managers, accusing him of data theft of its customers. It is even suspected that he sold them for a profit, claimed cops.
On Sept 4, a formal complaint was lodged at the
PS in Bidhannagar by the telecom major.
The complaint, signed by the general manager of Nodal & Security Compliance for West Bengal & Kolkata Circles, accuses the former senior manager of unauthorised data sharing using multiple apps while serving his notice period until Sept 1. He resigned on July 4.
"He allegedly transferred confidential company data via Telegram on his last working day before returning his official laptop. We have highlighted that our former employee had access to sensitive business information and personal data of customers, which he was obligated to keep confidential," the complaint said.
Cops have slapped sections 316(4) of BNS and sections 72 and 72A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
