Kolkata:Three bike-borne miscreants allegedly snatched a gold necklace from 56-year-old Bibin Kumar Mohata while he was out for his routine morning walk on Friday near VIP Market on CIT Road, Kankurgachhi.
This was the fourth snatching in less than two weeks, two of which have been solved with quick arrests.
According to Mohata, the unknown motorcyclist, accompanied by two pillion riders, approached him swiftly and snatched the necklace weighing approximately 30 grams from his neck. The trio then sped away on their motorcycle.
Mohata, a resident of Parvati Residency on Maniktala Main Road, reported the incident to the Phoolbagan police station.
The police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. They are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects. The authorities have also increased patrolling in the vicinity to prevent further incidents.
This incident has raised concerns over increasing number of snatching cases in the area. Residents have expressed their worries over the safety of pedestrians, especially during early morning and late evening hours. They have also asked for police cover similar to that of Maidan area. The probe into the matter is underway.
