Kolkata: A 16-year-old girl, a Class X student, was found hanging inside her residence in Sodepur on Saturday evening after facing repeated humiliation and physical assault from her 22-year-old jilted lover, Bidyut Das, and his family.
The incident occurred barely hours after her former boyfriend allegedly barged into her room while she was alone, and assaulted her when she rejected him again, her family members claimed.
Police later arrested Das's sister, Megha, while Das and his parents went into hiding.
According to neighbours, the girl had been in a relationship with Das for over a year but distanced herself after learning about his alleged involvement in antisocial activities.
Soon after the incident, locals staged a protest, demanding immediate arrest of Das and his family members.
