Abducted Midnapore minor rescued from Surat, 1 arrested

West Midnapore: A student of class 8 who had been kidnapped in July was rescued from Surat last Thursday and her abductor arrested. Ranjit Das (25), from Chakgopinathpur area in Sabang, has been booked for abduction, marrying a minor and under the

After she went missing on July 21, her family suspected that Das had kidnapped their daughter and lodged a complaint with Sabang police.
After an extensive search spanning for over a month, officers found Das's phone tower location was in Gujarat. ASI Bijon Bihari Das, leading a team of four officers, reached Olpad police station area in Gujarat and rescued the minor.
The girl later revealed that she had been drugged and lost consciousness when it all happened. When she came to, she realised Das had brought her to Gujarat, where he also married her. Das, who lives in a neighbouring village, had met her just a day earlier, she claimed.
On Sunday, when presented in a Midnapore court, the judge ordered Das to be sent to jail custody and directed that the minor be sent to a govt home.
