While the city remained dry for past four days, the Met office has predicted rain from Thursday. A combination of a trough, moisture availability, and heating is expected to bring thundershower activities.
While the rain relief will also make the mercury climb down slightly, the Met office has ruled out heavy rain in the city for now. "The chance of rain on Wednesday is only around 50%. But the chances increase from Thursday till Friday," said meteorologist HR Biswas, head of the RMC Kolkata. Maximum temperature at 34.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday was 1.9 notches above normal. The minimum at 28.2 degrees was also 1.8 notches above normal.
Kolkata recorded 93.3 mm of rain in the first nine days of the month. tnn
