Kolkata: Bengal's chief electoral officer Manoj Agarwal headed for Delhi on Tuesday to attend the CEOs' conference on Wednesday to be chaired by chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Agarwal is learnt to have sent his report to the EC about the preparedness for special intensive revision (SIR) in Bengal, as the conference is going to be based on SIR preparedness.
Trinamool has opposed the EC's plans to roll out SIR across the country fearing that it will snatch away the rights of citizens. The Bengal assembly polls are scheduled in May 2026.
Earlier in the day, Agarwal held one meeting with his officials and another with Mackintosh Burn officials for setting up new booths in the state. Bengal will have around 14,000 new booths. In all, 94,000 booths ramps would be required, along with sheds, drinking water facilities and toilets. A survey of booths is expected to start next week.
The Bengal CEO had hinted about a shortage of staff for conducting the SIR. Sources said Agarwal had wanted around 700 to 1,000 data entry operators for the job. The EC is against employment of contractual employees.
