Kolkata: Trinamool on Tuesday lashed out at BJP's former Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh for urging Bengal's youth "to take inspiration from Nepal" and said netas of the saffron party were "merchants of mayhem who thrive on violence, bloodshed and anarchy".
TMC said the call "to take up arms" and threat to turn Bengal into "another Nepal" laid bare the "dangerous fascist mindset that drives BJP's politics". "Their only aim is to drench Bengal's soil in blood so they can unleash their propaganda machine to malign the state," TMC said.
The Trinamool response came after Singh praised Nepal's youth for rising against corruption and urged young people in Bengal to take inspiration from them.
"The people of Nepal, who belong to our society, have raised their voices and launched a movement against corruption. I salute the youth aged 18 to 30 years, and I urge the people of Bengal to take inspiration from them," Singh said.
"Despite so much corruption, the people of Bengal are still waiting for the country's Prime Minister to act. You are not getting jobs, have no security and women's safety is at stake. When will you wake up?" the former MP asked.
He also urged the youth of Bengal to "stand in the front row and raise their voices against the deteriorating law and order in West Bengal".
In a post on X, Trinamool claimed this was an attempt to incite violence. "@BJP4Bengal's @ArjunsinghWB has now openly incited youth to take up arms and turn Bengal into another Nepal. This is the same "Goli Maro" fascist mindset that defines BJP."
TMC asserted that Bengal's culture was rooted in peace, progress and democratic values, adding that such inflammatory rhetoric from BJP netas would only be met with strong resistance from people of the state.
