Kolkata: A week before PM Narendra Modi's birthday, Bengal BJP has announced the Narendra Cup — a football tournament featuring teams from the party's mandal committees. State netas said that the tournament was a tribute to Swami Vivekananda. Bengal BJP has nearly 1,300 mandals.
The tournament begins on Thursday, coinciding with the date of Swami Vivekananda's Chicago speech, and will conclude on Sept 17, PM's birthday.
Usually, during the fortnight around PM Modi's birthday, BJP organises various ‘service-oriented and social programmes' across the country called ‘Seva Pakhwada'. "Narendra Cup will help to prepare party workers at mandal levels and minimise factional rivalries," said a Bengal BJP neta.
