Kolkata: A woman who hailed from Golf Green but was settled in Mumbai was found murdered along the railway tracks between Brace Bridge and Akra Santoshpur the very day she had taken a train from Mumbai to reach Kolkata.
GRP has drawn up a murder case after the post mortem report confirmed that her death was due to sharp weapon wounds to the neck.
The body of Rinku Samaddar (38) had been found next to the railway tracks around 9.30 pm on Aug 28, over 10 hours after the Geetanjali Express in which she had travelled alone from Mumbai had pulled up at Santragachhi station. Maheshtala police station was informed of the incident as was Ballygunge GRP as the area where the body was discovered is under railway jurisdiction.
CCTV footage from Santragachhi station showed the woman alighting from the train with luggage. She was then spotted boarding a taxi with a man. Footage from Sealdah station showed the two boarding a local train to Budge Budge. Images of them getting off at Brace Bridge were also found. CCTV from an office near the tracks showed them walking along the railway tracks, after which investigators believe she was murdered.
The young man with her is suspected to have killed her and fled with the luggage. Efforts are underway to identify him. Despite being summoned twice, her husband has not appeared for questioning.
"We are trying to find out why she travelled to Brace Bridge when she lives in Golf Green. The family's behaviour is also odd as it has been suppressing key details. The husband has also not cooperated with the investigation. However, we have so far not found anything incriminating against him," said an investigating officer.
Investigators are examining his call records to see if they can find a connection between the victim, her family members and the man who was seen with her.
