  • KOLKATA: A Durga Puja in the city will highlight a theme that blends India’s scientific achievements with a call to dispel age-old superstitions.

The Purvachal Udayan Sangha, in its 29th year, will showcase a theme inspired by India’s recent strides in space exploration.

India’s lunar mission, along with the successful launch of its solar mission spacecraft and astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s 14-day space journey, have strengthened the country’s position as a major player in the global space arena. These achievements are not only milestones in science but also symbols of a nation aiming for the stars.

However, organisers said that despite such progress, many people remain trapped by superstitions and unfounded beliefs.

The puja theme seeks to expose fraudsters who exploit these beliefs for personal gain.

The pandal, designed by the artistic duo Sanatan Dinda and Somnath Mukherjee, will depict the contrast between scientific enlightenment and the darkness of superstition through installations and interactive exhibits. Visitors will be encouraged to reflect on the importance of rational thought and scientific inquiry.

The highlight will be the unveiling during the goddess’s awakening, when the pandal will transform into a spectacular setting to reveal the truth behind superstition. Organisers said the moment will serve as a reminder of the need to embrace knowledge and reject ignorance.
