Kolkata: A routine morning drive to school turned into a nightmare for a family on Wednesday when a road-rage dispute escalated into a violent assault on a narrow stretch between Chinar Park and Joramandir.
Ankita Mukherjee and her husband Chandan were on their way to drop their daughter off at school around 7.15 am when the incident occurred. The road in front of Charnock Hospital was reportedly blocked by another car, preventing them from overtaking.
According to the complaint lodged by Mukherjee, "The driver of the other car wasn't allowing us space to pass by. So, I just got out of the car and requested him to allow our car to overtake as my daughter was getting late for school.
This angered the couple in that car and they came out of the vehicle to assault me."
She described the physical assault in distressing detail: "First, the woman tugged at my clothes and tried to drag me by my hair. The man then pushed me away."
When Mukherjee's husband intervened to protest against the unprovoked attack, he, too, became a target. The entire episode unfolded in front of the complainant's daughter.
"My clothes were torn and I sustained injuries on my face, chest and neck.
My husband suffered injuries on his hands, legs and chest," Mukherjee said in her written complaint to the police.
Baguiati police have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and have initiated a formal investigation into the incident. The police said they are examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the identity of the accused couple and understand the sequence of events leading to the altercation.
