  • Kolkata:

    on Saturday said while

had politicised Sandeshkhali in Bengal by reaching out publicly to an alleged rape victim who was later made BJP's Lok Sabha candidate, he chose to remain silent on the Manipur women who were physically abused and raped.

's Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev said: "I remember the time PM Modi went to Bengal and politicised the Sandeshkhali issue. He had spoken to the alleged victim of the crime publicly on phone and later publicly met her. The Sandeshkhali allegations turned out to be false. But in Manipur, the country saw what happened to women, how brutally they were stripped, raped and killed."

"It is shocking that when Manipur was burning, he travelled the world but not Manipur.

It is not just his duty to give good governance, he must also give a healing touch when the state is burning," she added.

TMC posted on X: "Eight hundred and sixty-four days of orchestrated silence. In that long, hollow stretch, Manipur endured unrelenting carnage, communal fracture and the full weight of governmental abdication. The Prime Minister, who parades himself as the custodian of the nation's soul, only managed to locate Manipur on the map after its people were battered into despair. While villages burned and communities bled, Narendra Modi's silence metastasized into complicity.

His belated discovery of Manipur is no act of leadership, but a cynical calculation, an indictment of a regime sustained by selective empathy and performative nationalism."
