  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Kolkata from Sunday, to inaugurate a three-day long Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) of the armed forces at Fort William in the city on Monday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, chief of defence staff General Anil Chauhan and defence secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and several other dignitaries will also be there at the conference, which will be held from 15 September.

The CCC is the apex-level forum of the Armed Forces, bringing together the nation’s top civil and military leadership to exchange views and chart the course for India’s defence preparedness.

Sources in the Defence Ministry (MoD) said the event will focus on reforms, transformation and change, and operational preparedness, reflecting the Armed Forces’ emphasis on institutional reforms, deeper integration, and technological modernisation while sustaining multi-domain operational readiness. Deliberations will focus on strengthening the Armed Forces to remain agile, decisive, and future-ready in a rapidly evolving geo-strategic environment.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future”.

After the Operation Sindoor, military strikes launched by India on nine targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours on 7 May, the armed Forces’ conference in Kolkata is significant, defence analysts felt.

Mr Modi will land in Kolkata on Sunday evening from Jorhat in Assam and stay the night at the Raj Bhavan. Following day, 15 September, the PM will inaugurate the combined commanders’ conference in the morning at the Indian Army’s Eastern Command headquarters, Vijay Durg, the erstwhile Fort William.

The top civil and military minds will be present at the combined commanders’ conference — the apex brainstorming forum of the armed forces. The top leadership will share, exchange, and provide views at the conceptual and strategic levels. Primarily, it will focus on reforms, transformation, and operational preparedness of the armed forces.

On Monday afternoon, the PM will leave Kolkata for Purnea in Bihar. He had visited Kolkata on 22 August and laid the foundation stones and inaugurated multiple development projects worth over Rs 5,200 crore.

This will be the PM’s second visit to Kolkata in less than a month.
