New Delhi: ED has summoned actor and former Trinamool MP
on Monday and actor
on Tuesday to record their statements in connection with their alleged association with 1xBet betting app.
The two actors have been asked to appear before the agency days after the ED questioned cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina for endorsing the 1xBet app. Chakraborty did not respond to text messages from TOI regarding the summons.
Dhawan appeared for questioning before ED on Sept 4, while Raina was questioned on Aug 13, regarding endorsement fees they received.
"The investigation is related to the promoters and their associates who are running these apps and also aims to gather their contact details in India," a senior official said.
Since 2022, the govt has blocked more than 1,500 such illegal betting apps and questioned executives of Google and Meta regarding the promotion of these apps on their platforms.
