1 dead, 2 injured as biker making Insta reel crashes

Kolkata: A cyclist was killed, and two others on a motorcycle are fighting for their lives in hospital after the biker crashed into the cyclist near Eco Park in New Town while making an Instagram reel video and attempting a stunt on Monday around 5 pm.
The deceased cyclist was identified as Haricharan Das (55), a resident of Murshidabad currently living in Rajarhat. The motorbike rider and the two women are residents of Lalkuthi in Narayanpur.
According to police, the bike rider, accompanied by two women pillion riders, was recording a video reel when he attempted a stunt and lost control of the vehicle on the service road off New Town Main Arterial Road near Eco Park Gate No.
1. The motorbike then hit the cyclist, who died on the spot. None of the three on the motorbike were wearing helmets, and all suffered injuries.
A senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police said, "The bikers were riding along the service road from Narayanpur towards Biswa Bangla Gate when the rider lost control and crashed into the cyclist. The two women were recording a reel video at the time of the accident."
Witnesses said all victims were lying in a pool of blood till police and ambulance services arrived.
Several bystanders recorded videos of the scene and shared them on social media, while some made frantic calls to the cops.
One of the women was discharged after receiving treatment, while the rider and the other woman are hospitalised in serious condition.
Cops said they are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the collision and whether negligence was involved.
This is the third fatal road accident reported in New Town this month. On Sept 2, Subir Chakraborty (70) died after being hit by a speeding college student near Balaka. On Sept 4, an IT professional was killed when a govt bus collided with their scooter. The most recent fatality involved Bansuree Kundu Pal, a techie who died near Biswa Bangla Gate after being hit by a govt bus.
