Teenager drowns in pond
The Statesman | 16 September 2025Ansh, a Class VII student of Rishra Vidyapith Hindi High School, had gone to bathe in the Tarapukur pond when he accidentally slipped into the depth. According to local sources, he did not know how to swim.
Ward 29 Councillor Jaynath Jha said the pond is quite deep and urged parents to be vigilant, advising them not to allow children near water bodies or to bathe if they cannot swim.
Police, with the help of divers, recovered the boy and rushed him to Serampore Walsh Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway. The incident has plunged the neighbourhood into mourning.
