The Statesman | 16 September 2025The theme of 41 Palli Durga Puja Committee is Sopan, meaning staircase. With the advancement in science and technology, people move forward leaving behind the present stage of social and mental development. This is the 68th edition of the Durga Puja.
The pandal has been decorated with clocks that symbolises time. “We are all product of time. The changes that take place in our social and personal life happen in the backdrop of time. Science is the tool that pushes us to move forward. When we look around we see various developments that are taking place. Changes are inevitable. Typewriters have been replaced by computers. In the past few years massive changes have taken place in our food habits, dress etc,” said Surajit Ray, secretary of 41 Palli Sarbojanin Durgotsav Committee.
Changes have been shown by putting traditional toys up to electronically operated robots. “Major changes have taken place in the world of dolls. Around three decades ago, toys were not so attractive. We now get scale models of cars. Introduction of electronically operated robots has brought major changes in the world of toys. Robots are symbols of scientific advancement. They are now used in medical treatments like surgery. They are now used for running automobiles and machines,” said Mr Ray.
