Kolkata: East Burdwan Police on Tuesday dismissed Bengal BJP's claims that SSC candidate Manisha Sikdar was asked to remove her iron bangle (noa) during the exam at Kalna Hindu Girls High School on Sunday.
After Sikdar reported the matter, the issue was resolved and she appeared for her exams with the iron bangle, cops said.
The police in a statement said that SSC had hired a private agency to conduct the exams and an employee of the agency stopped Sikdar at the gates because she wore a metallic bangle. Police said the entire episode was a malicious attempt to create controversy.
Bengal BJP questioned on X if this was Bengal or Bangladesh when a "married Hindu woman was asked to remove her bangle". Trinamool MP and SSC counsel Kalyan Banerjee said, "The candidate did allege a lot of things for publicity."
