• Cop work worrisome, Cal HC transfers case to CID

  • Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Tuesday lambasted the Joynagar police for not being able to nab 12 out of 14 accused in the 2023 Joynagar violence case, where houses of CPM supporters were set ablaze.

"Three police stations are very worrisome: Sonarpur, Baruipur, and Narendrapur," Justice Tirthankar Ghosh said, while involving CID to find the 12 absconding accused.

The judge recorded that three witnesses were examined by cops and 14 accused were named in charge sheet, of which 12 are absconding. State counsel repeatedly sought 45 days for local cops to find those absconding, but Justice Ghosh said that it's been two years since the incident took place and that the court could have considered the prayer if it was a new case.
