Jalpaiguri: Four persons drowned after their car plunged in a pond in Cooch Behar in the early hours of Tuesday. Three of them were cousins.
There were five passengers — all residents of Dinhata — in the car. While Sanjay Das, Partha Das, Amit Das and Dhananjay Barman — all in their mid-20s — were trapped in the car, Moumita Barman managed to break open the rear windshield and swim to safety.
As the car lost control and plunged into the pond, locals rushed to the spot and informed cops. The car was fished out after hours of efforts. The victims were taken to MJN Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
