Kolkata: A special court will hear on Saturday ED's plea for the custody of Bengal minister Chandranath Sinha in the school jobs scam case.
The ED lawyer submitted in the court on Tuesday that the agency had come across more properties in Birbhum linked to the jail minister and wanted to question him in custody.
The agency submitted a three-page document in the court to back its submission.
Lawyers appearing for Sinha sought time to study the document. The judge accepted their plea.
ED officials suspect Sinha is a beneficiary of the cash-for-jobs scam and wants to question him about the Rs 8 crore that the agency says he has amassed.
"The agency has demanded custodial interrogation, which is not necessary. He has complied with what the investigators have said... There is no reason for them to have him in their custody," said Sanjib Dan, a lawyer representing Sinha.
The minister had surrendered before a court on Sept 6 in connection with the case and was granted bail.
