Kolkata: Jadavpur University (JU) students across the three faculties—arts, science, and engineering—raised some issues during their general body meeting on Monday. Among other demands, the students pressed for an increase in the number of female security personnel on the campus, proper maintenance of women's washrooms, revamping of the counselling service and formation of a sensitisation team to campaign against substance abuse.
Students have decided to submit their demands to the authorities on Thursday. They proposed that the sensitisation team should comprise students, teachers and staffers to be vigilant against open consumption of alcohol and weed on the campus.
"Toilets that are accessible for women till late night are the ones in the union room. But those are dirty. We want the authorities to ensure all washrooms for women are regularly cleaned and remain open overnight," a student said.
