Police divers find slippers in pond where JU girl drowned

Anamika's friends, who were with her that evening, told police that this was not the first time they drank together, adding that they even tried to resuscitate her after dragging her out of the waterbody. The police also asked the JU security guards to reconstruct the events at the scene of the crime.
Senior officers from Lalbazar went to the JU campus for the second straight day after Anamika's father, Arnab, lodged an FIR alleging his daughter was murdered.
Joint CP Rupesh Kumar himself led the probe. "A search was conducted from 5 pm to 6.45 pm. Since the incident, Anamika's glasses and shoes were missing. Therefore, divers were deployed in the pond and a pair of shoes was found. Whether they belong to Anamika will be clarified later.
The three security guards who were on duty that night were also brought to the scene to try and recreate the chain of events that might have taken place six days ago.
Officers from the detective department are speaking with them. The entire process is being recorded on video," claimed a police source.
Police said the fresh hunt for evidence was also aimed at plugging a gap in a statement given by the security guard. The guard who was on duty that night claimed that on Thursday night, a girl came to report that a student had fallen into the water. He, however, insisted that he had never seen this girl before.
According to the security guard, when they reached the scene after hearing about Anamika's fall, only a select few were around that area.
"This statement needs collaboration," said a source.
On Wednesday, six JU students — all of them friends of Anamika — were called to Lalbazar to recount the chain of events. Some statements ran contrary to what her father, Arnab, had complained about. "The students reportedly narrated the chain of events and told police that they were drinking on the campus.
They even reportedly said that it was not the first time that they engaged in drinking and smoking. They have done it multiple times on campus and at the houses of friends.
They have also had drinking sessions at Mondal's house. The only trouble Mondal sometimes had after drinking was hallucination, the students reportedly told cops. The students confided that the girl's parents knew about her drinking habit," said a source.
