  • Ek dake Abhishek, an initiative taken by Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of Trinamul Congress has helped rescue a migrant Bengali-speaking worker, who was confined by the police and later brutally assaulted in Odisha.

Family members of the migrant worker got in touch with Ek dake Abhishek. The worker hails from Murshidabad. He was brutally beaten up. Mr Banerjee got in touch with the administration in Odisha and brought the worker back in Bengal.

The Trinamul Congress wrote in his X-handle: “BJP4India has got a genocidal appetite for erasing Bengal. The same Bengal that tore down colonial chains and gave India its National Anthem and National Song is now being made to feel alien in its own country.”

Trinamul Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee has launched a sustained campaign against the BJP-ruled states, where Bengali speaking workers are attacked and harassed quite frequently. She took part in rallies held in the city, Bolpur and Jhargram to protest against the attack. The state government has decided to give Rs 5,000 per month to the migrant workers, who come back to Bengal and also help the workers’ children get admission in state-run schools. A portal has also been set up where the migrant workers can register their names to fetch jobs in Bengal.
