  • Darjeeling: The Darjeeling Bar Association (DBA) on Thursday staged a protest rally in Mungpoo, about 30km from Darjeeling, demanding the transfer of Judicial Magistrate Alakananda Sarkar from the Mungpoo court, reports Roshan Gupta.

The association has been on an indefinite strike since Sept 11 over the issue.

Sarkar, judicial magistrate first class and civil judge (junior division), was caught in a controversy in Aug after allegedly restricting the use of the Nepali language in her court. She later publicly apologised for it. DBA President Taranga Pandit said, "We will continue our cease-work till Friday and decide on the further course of action on Saturday."
