• Fake PS case: Noida cops raid ex-TMC neta’s Kolkata properties

  • Kolkata: A team of Uttar Pradesh Police conducted raids at two properties — in Gariahat and Beleghata — linked to Bivas Adhikari, a former Trinamool leader who was arrested for running a bogus ‘investigation bureau' in Noida and on extortion charges last month.

After conducting these searches, UP cops on Thursday said they would visit Nalhati in Birbhum district as the intricate web of deceit spun by Adhikari had its origins there. In Nalhati, Adhikari had been accused of land grabbing through intimidation tactics.

Before setting up the fake police station, styled as ‘International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau' in Noida, Adhikari reportedly ran similar fraudulent operations across Birbhum. In 2023, several Nalhati residents received intimidating notices—mostly citing land disputes— from an organization called the National Bureau of Social Investigation and Social Justice, Noida cops said. These notices directed the recipients to get the issues resolved at Adhikari's ashram office in Nalhati.

On Wednesday, despite facing procedural hurdles, the Noida cops searched the Beleghata premises by breaking its lock after seeking permission from Sealdah Court. tnn
