Mamata mentions about release of inmates from correctional homes

The state government will set free 45 convicts serving life terms in different correctional homes in the state.
They will be released following their “good conduct”. The correctional administration department watched them closely and expressed its satisfaction following which the decision to set them free was taken.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee in her X handle wrote: “Our efforts will be fruitful if the persons who will be released will become good citizens and enjoy their new life.”
The state government from 2011 has released 840 persons, who were serving life term in different correctional homes. Now, 45 persons will be released following the law.
The state government has left no stone unturned to improve the living condition in the correctional homes. In Presidency Correctional home there is a huge weaving section and the inmates who have shown interest in weaving, knitting and stitching are given training.
Indira Gandhi National Open University ( IGNOU) has opened its centres in different correctional homes where many inmates have become graduates and passed MA/ MSc examinations. There is an inmate in Presidency Correctional Home, who has passed MBA after joining a distance learning programme.
Mukta Beri and Mukta Beni were two cultural teams, who used to take part in Balmiki Pratibha which was held in different auditoriums both in the city and districts.
Swami Divyanandaji, who is one of the vice-presidents of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, used to give holistic education to the inmates in the mid 1990s.
