Kolkata: On the first day of CBI's trial in the school jobs-for-cash scam, former School Service Commission (SSC) chairman Chittaranjan Mondal said that former education minister Partha Chatterjee and then Trinamool Congress neta
tried to exert influence on him for "illegal recruitments".
Mondal, who joined BJP in 2019, told the court that his statements had nothing to do with politics.
In his testimony before the special CBI court, Mondal said he was appointed SSC chairman on June 6, 2011. He resigned from the post in 2013 "under pressure" when SSC was appointing assistant teachers.
Mondal claimed he was "under pressure" from Roy and indirectly from Chatterjee. He also alleged that while the recruitment process was ongoing, Chatterjee asked him to visit his home.
Chatterjee allegedly tried to "forced him" for "illegal appointments" of teachers.
Chatterjee's lawyer Biplab Goswami pointed fingers at the former SSC chairman's BJP links, adding that Chatterjee was not an education minister between 2011 and 2013. "His allegation is not substantiated by documents. Moreover, he said that CBI recorded his statement twice, while four CBI investigators recorded his statement," Goswami said.
On Saturday, another former SSC chairman will depose before the court.
