West Bengal Chief Minister on Thursday pulled up her ministers during a Cabinet meeting for making “irresponsible statements” in the media.
Sources said that during the meeting, the chief minister told party leaders to think before making any statement against any person or organisation.
“Ministers are the face of our party and the government as well. So, they should be cautious before making any statement. Otherwise, due to their statements, the image of the party gets tarnished,” the CM reportedly told her ministers.
Directing them to stay put in their respective constituencies during the Puja, the chief minister told the ministers to keep a check on any attempts to disrupt the law and order in the state, an official said.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved several key proposals, including the transfer of 200 acres to the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Limited (WBIDC) for the development of the Tajpur-Dankuni-Raghunathpur economic corridor.
The chief minister had earlier announced plans to make six freight corridors in the state, including the Tajpur-Raghunathpur freight corridor.
“The proposed corridor project will open up massive employment opportunities across districts and provide a major boost to industrial growth in the state. The land allocation marks one of the initial steps towards shaping the corridor as a hub for trade and connectivity,” an official said.
The Cabinet also gave its approval to accord industry status to the logistics sector, a move aimed at attracting investment and streamlining business operations, an official said.
In another decision, the cabinet approved a proposal to fill 15 vacant posts under the Newtown Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA).
“The appointments are expected to strengthen the functioning of the civic and development body, which oversees infrastructure and planning in Newtown,” an official said.
Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Thursday ordered the release of 45 prisoners serving life sentences for good conduct. In a post on X, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote: “Our government has legally released many of the life prisoners who have already served more than 14 years of their sentences. Since 2011, 840 such people have been released. Another 45 are being legally released. I congratulate them and their families.”
“I know that their behavior during their imprisonment was good. This release is a recognition of that. The job of correctional facilities is to change the mindset of criminals and bring them back into the mainstream of society. I hope that these released prisoners will become good citizens in their new and free lives — and only then will our efforts be successful,” she added. ENS
