• Kurmi agitation affects train services in SER

  • At least 21 trains were cancelled while 24 others were regulated in different ways following agitation at various stations in the neighbouring states by the members of the Kurmi community.

    Till 5.30 p.m. around 46 trains were affected due to the protests by the members of the community who are demanding a Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and inclusion of the Kurmali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. According to the South Eastern Railway, train services of the zonal railway were partially affected due to agitation by Adiwasi Kudmi Samaj today. Agitation was staged at Bhanjpur station of Kharagpur Division from as early as 5.02 pm to 5.35 am. Agitation is also continuing between the Sini-Gamharia section of Chakradharpur division, Rakhamines-Galudih Section of Kharagpur Division. As informed by the SER, agitations continued between the Sini-Gamharia section of Chakradharpur division, Rakhamines-Galudih Section of Kharagpur Division. In Ranchi Division, rail blockade was continuing at Muri Yard and Latemda-Jhimri and Namkum-Tatisilwai sections.

    The agitation in the neighbouring states partially affected train services including Vande Bharat in the SER, according to the zonal railway office. Following the agitation trains including 13504 Hatia-Burdwan MEMU, 68019 Tatanagar-Gua MEMU, 18036 Hatia-Kharagpur Express, 12366 Ranchi-Patna Express, 22350 Ranchi-Patna Vande Bharat Express, 68079 Bhojudih-Chandrapura MEMU, 68080 Chandrapura- Bhojudih MEMU, 68123 Kharagpur-Tatanagar MEMU, 13320 Ranchi-Dumka Express, 13304 Ranchi-Dhanbad Express, 58151 Birmitrapur-Barsuan MEMU, 58152 Barsuan-Birmitrapur MEMU, 20888 Bhubaneswar-Ranchi Express, 12022 Barbil-Howrah Janshatabdi Express, 18603 Ranchi-Goda MEMU and so on were cancelled today. Apart from this, crucial trains like 18013 Adra-Bokaro Steel City Express, 22891 Howrah-Ranchi Express, 12859 CSMT Mumbai-Howrah Express, 18029 LTT Mumbai – Shalimar Express and few more were diverted through various routes due to the protests.
