Kolkata: With the sun shining bright, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) utilised Sunday to repair damaged stretches.
On Saturday, the repair work was hampered due to spells of heavy rain.
The KMC roads department repaired stretches on Gariahat Road (near ITI) and several other roads in Tangra. Repair work was also undertaken on Canal South Road, besides some stretches on EM Bypass. While the Gariahat Road and Canal South are being relaid with concrete paver blocks, roads in Tangra are being paved with plastic hot mix. KMC also kept its mobile road repair vans ready for fixing potholes.
The civic body team started patchwork in some areas off EM Bypass.
Repair work continued at Madurdaha till late in the night. The KMC roads department cancelled leaves of workers at the hot mix plants at Palmerbazar (Beliaghata) and Goragacha (Taratala) on Sunday to ensure an uninterrupted supply of road repair materials. "If rain occurs, we may need to take up a fresh repair drive on some roads," said a senior KMC roads department official.
In New Town, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has been conducting road patchwork over the last few weeks. "Almost 95% of the stretches on roads across New Town have been repaired. Patchwork is being done as and when required," said an NKDA official.
In Salt Lake, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) conducted patch repair on the stretch from tank number nine to SDO office on the Second Avenue Road.
Craters and potholes have developed on some stretches in BMC areas.
