Kolkata: As part of its Puja outreach to connect with the Bengali-speaking diaspora in each state, Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya is scheduled to visit Gujarat during the festival, while Union minister Sukanta Majumdar will leave for Varanasi in a day or two.
Nearly 107 Bengal BJP netas will visit Durga Puja pandals in more than 100 locations across the country.
State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to go to Tripura, Nisith Pramanik will visit Maharashtra and Locket Chatterjee will go to Uttarakhand.
Bengal netas on Friday said Durga Puja was the occasion when Bengalis come together. "That is the best time to address them and talk about Bengal's heritage and culture.
This programme is designed to appeal to Bengali asmita among the Bengali diaspora staying outside Bengal," said Shankar Ghosh, BJP's chief whip in the Bengal assembly.
Earlier last month, the BJP leadership asked its Bengal unit to engage in a mass contact programme — Durgapuja Bangali Milan Samaroh — during the festive days. Accordingly, more than 50 state netas started reaching out to the Bengali-speaking diaspora in various states: Rupa Ganguly and Rudranil Ghosh visited Mumbai, while Keya Ghosh and Sikha Chatterjee met puja organisers in New Delhi.
O Nidheesh has been appointed as the in-charge from Kerala, and Bengal BJP general secretary Agnimitra Paul is in charge of holding outreach programmes in Gujarat.
"We have a programme called ‘Ek Bharat, Sreshtha Bharat', which is aimed at celebrating the cultures and festivals of different communities. The idea is to celebrate cultural diversity in the country. Definitely, a political functionary will discuss developments in the state while having bhog-prasad with locals," Bhattacharya said.
"I am honoured to visit Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of PM Narendra Modi. The opposition is not accustomed to such a pan-India approach of a political party. But such moves weave cultures together," said Majumdar.
