• Fire at grocery store, resto in Ballygunge

  • Kolkata: Two fires were reported on Tuesday following the night-long downpour.

    The first fire broke out at a grocery store in Mandeville Gardens around 11 am. The engines' arrival was delayed owing to waterlogging.

    Four fire engines eventually arrived and extinguished the fire after one-and-a-half hours.

    Mayor Firhad Hakim arrived at the spot to oversee the operation.

    Around 4 pm, the second fire broke out at a restaurant in Ballygunge Place. Two fire engines could put out the flames swiftly, said am officer.

    No casualty was reported. Police and fire department started a probe to determine the causes of the fires. Electric faults are suspected to be the reasons. tnn
