• These night-long Metro services in Kolkata will help you reach pandals for Durga Puja

  • Imagine finishing a late-night feast near Dakshineswar and boarding a Metro at 4:10 am, seamlessly connecting to the Green Line to reach Howrah Maidan for pandal-hopping. This Durga Puja, travel between Kolkata, its suburbs and adjoining districts has been made easier with Metro Railway announcing extended and nightlong services across its corridors.

    For the first time, the Blue Line (Dakshineswar-Kavi Subhash) and the Green Line (Howrah Maidan-Salt Lake Sector V) will operate almost continuously through the night on Saptami, Astami and Navami — September 29, 30 and October 1. The Purple and Yellow Lines will also see extended timings.

    Blue Line (Dakshineswar-Kavi Subhash)

    On Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, services will run continuously from 1 pm until 4 am.

    Dates: September 29 to October 1

    Peak frequency: 6-7 minutes

    Total services: 246 daily

    Last trains: 3:48 am (Dakshineswar-Shahid Khudiram) and 3:47 am (Shahid Khudiram-Dakshineswar)

    Panchami on September 27 will see 262 services between 8 am and 11 pm with trains every 6-7 minutes. The following day, Sasthi (September 28), has 246 services from 9 am to 11 pm with the same frequency. Dashami (October 2) will have 132 services, 1 pm to 10 pm with 8 minutes’ frequency.

    Green Line (Howrah Maidan-Salt Lake Sector V)

    The east-west corridor will also remain open through the night on key Puja days.

    Operating hours: 1:30 pm-4:18 am

    Total services: 192 daily

    Peak frequency: 8 minutes

    Last trains: 4:06 am (Howrah Maidan-Salt Lake Sector V), 4:18 am (Salt Lake Sector V-Howrah Maidan)

    Other days:

    Panchami (September 27): 225 services, 7:30 am-11:16 pm, 6 minutes’ frequency

    Sasthi (September 28): 184 services, 9 am-11:28 pm, 8 minutes’ frequency

    Dashami (Oct 2): 74 services, 1:30 pm-10:32 pm, 15 minutes’ frequency

    Yellow Line (Noapara-Jai Hind Bimanbandar)

    Panchami and Sasthi: 3 pm-10:35 pm, 15 minutes’ frequency

    Saptami to Navami: Services until 10:50 pm

    Dashami: Last train at 9:20 pm

    Purple Line (Joka-Majerhat)

    From Panchami to Dashami, there will be 38 services daily, 3 pm-10:55 pm, with 25 minutes’ frequency.

    Metro Railway has urged commuters to use Smart Cards, Tourist Smart Cards or the Aamar Kolkata Metro app for QR-based mobile tickets to avoid queues at booking counters. With trains running every 6-8 minutes on the Blue and Green Lines during peak hours, officials have advised pandal-hoppers not to overcrowd compartments or block doors, and to wait for the next service if needed.
