• 46.5L took metro rides over 6 puja days this year

  • Kolkata: Metro carried 46.5 lakh passengers from Panchami to Dashami, with the highest ever single-day ridership of 9.8 lakh recorded on Panchami. However, the total five-day puja footfall was around 4 lakh less than that of 2024, when Metro carried 50.5 lakh passengers from Chaturthi to Dashami.

    This year, the highest footfall was recorded on Panchami, when office-goers travelled alongside revellers. "Saturday's footfall was the all-time highest daily passenger count in the history of Metro Railway," an official said. On Saptami, more than 9 lakh passengers travelled. On Ashtami, 8.2 lakh rode the metro network, and on Nabami (Wednesday), 8.1 lakh travelled. On Dashami (Thursday), 2.9 lakh rode across the Blue (North-South), Green (East-West), Yellow (Noapara-Airport), and Purple (Joka-Majerhat) lines.

    The Orange Line (New Garia-Metropolitan) corridor did not run during the puja days.

    In 2023,

    recorded around 41 lakh passengers over six

    days, starting with Chaturthi. Before the pandemic, in 2019, the highest passenger count during the pujas was 45.6 lakh.
