Two civic volunteers were arrested in Gajol, Malda of West Bengal after it was discovered that gold ornaments adorning an idol of goddess Durga had disappeared. The accused had been on security duty.
The incident took place at a puja mandap in Gajol. The disappearance of the gold ornaments and a small piece of cloth from the idol was first noticed by the priest. This prompted a review of the pandal’s CCTV footage, which allegedly showed that the civic volunteers were directly involved in the theft.
Following the investigation and review of the footage, Malda police arrested three men. individuals. The arrested include two civic volunteers, identified as Sanjay Mondal and Gaur Mondal, along with a resident named Adhir Mondal.
The presence of civic volunteers, often deployed across West Bengal for crowd control and security purposes during festivals like Durga Puja, is a common sight. In this instance, the arrested volunteers were on duty, tasked with providing security to the crowded pandal.
Police are currently interrogating the arrested individuals as they work to recover the stolen gold ornaments.
