With the Assembly election just six months away, Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamul Congress national general secretary, today held a meeting to discuss the roadmap for the election.
He held meetings with the senior party leaders at Kalighat.
Mr Banerjee has said over and over again that the BJP will not get more than 50 seats in the forthcoming Assembly election.
Mr Banerjee exchanged pleasantries with the senior party leaders as they were meeting after Vijaya Dashami.
From today’s meeting it is evident that Mr Banerjee will be the key person in the 2026 Assembly election and will prepare the campaign policy while Mamata Banerjee, party’s chairperson will be the chief campaigner. The roadmap will be placed before her for final clearance.
It was learnt that Mr Banerjee has made it clear that there was no scope for complaisance in the party and those who work hard will be rewarded and the idle force will be dropped. Recently, while meeting the leaders from the districts across the state he had made this issue very clear that the leaders will have to ensure victory of the candidates. It was learnt that he had expressed displeasure over the performance of the party in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Mr Banerjee made it clear that no lobbying for the tickets to contest will be allowed and the leaders will have to work for the candidates nominated by the party. Mr Banerjee, over the years, has prepared a network up to the booth level.
It was learnt that the party will intensify its vigil over the Special Intensive Review (SIR) to be conducted by the Election Commission from November onwards. The party will take it seriously if the name of any genuine voter is dropped during the SIR.
Trinamul Congress will highlight the financial deprivation of the BJP-led Centre. It will go to the people and explain how the centre did not clear the money meant for the workers of MGNREGA and how Mamata Banerjee has cleared their dues. Also, the Centre has not cleared the dues to set up rural houses and supply of drinking water in the rural areas.
The party leaders have been asked to question the central leaders visiting their areas about the delay in clearing the dues which has reached Rs 1.92 lakh crore.
