Darjeeling: Torrential rain not only caused loss of life, property, and connectivity, but also dealt a significant blow to the Unesco World Heritage site, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR).
The DHR has suspended full-fledged services between New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and Darjeeling following fresh landslides at Dilaram, around 20 km from Darjeeling, and Whistle Khola near Kurseong, until further notice.
DHR director Rishav Choudhary said the NJP–Darjeeling service was cancelled from Sunday after multiple landslides along NH-110 near Kurseong.
"As a precaution, services have been suspended until the debris are cleared and tracks are deemed safe for operations. Our assistant engineers are monitoring the situation, and all vulnerable spots will be thoroughly inspected before resuming services. We are aiming to restore operations from October 9," Choudhary said.
