Kolkata: As part of its preparation for the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bengal, the
is focusing on a more accessible soft copy of the 2022 voter rolls, with an improved search option.
The last SIR in Bengal took place in 2022 and the data is in Bengali.
While a PDF file of 2022 data is available on the CEO's portal, it is challenging to search for names. Officials are hopeful that a new search option would be available by Oct 10, allowing voters to easily find their names in the 2002 rolls if they were registered at that time.
On Wednesday morning, a virtual meeting will be held with district election officers, ADMs, SDOs, OC (election), and electoral registration officers from all south Bengal districts.
The meeting, chaired by Bengal CEO Manoj Agarwal and attended by deputy election commissioner Gyanesh Bharti and DG (IT) Seema Khanna, will focus on SIR. Officials from north Bengal, currently engaged in flood and natural calamity relief efforts, are exempted from this meeting.
Agarwal is expected to address issues related to mapping the 2002 electoral roll with the 2025 roll, training polling officials and identifying volunteers for BLOs.
On Thursday, Bharti will visit Kolaghat to meet district officials from East Midnapore, Jhargram and Bankura. He will also attend meetings in Rajarhat and Barasat.
EC officials have indicated that fewer phases are expected in the 2026 Bengal elections. The 2021 assembly polls in Bengal saw eight phases while 2024 LS polls had seven.
