  • Kolkata: A day after 15-year-old Rupashi Jana, a resident of ESI housing complex, died of dengue — the first in Salt Lake this year — Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation on Monday conducted a drive to clean up and spray larvicide inside the complex.

Stagnant water and mosquito larvae were found in many spots.

Discarded plastic packets, paper cups, plates, and other waste were scattered in several corners where rainwater had accumulated, allowing mosquito larvae to breed. The spots were cleaned up, and larvicide was sprayed in the corners and in open drains.

"The civic body does send workers but it is not possible for three-four persons to clean up the entire complex. The civic body needs to pay more attention," said Biswanath Mukherjee, a resident.

"The premises were cleaned. Residents have been urged not to throw waste on the roads inside," a civic official said.
