Five killed, five critically injured in road mishap

Five persons were killed and five others critically injured in a road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Kawardha district on Sunday, following a head-on collision between a speeding truck and a sports utility vehicle (SUV).
The victims included three female teachers, a minor girl, and the driver of the vehicle. The three teachers were from Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashram Uccha Balika Vidyalaya, Dankuni.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near Akalghariya, under the jurisdiction of the Chilphi police station, along National Highway 30 in Kawardha district, Chhattisgarh.
According to police sources, the victims were residents of Hooghly district, West Bengal. They had been travelling from Kanha National Park in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, to Bilaspur when the ill-fated accident occurred. The vehicle reportedly lost control on a sharp bend, resulting in a head-on collision.
“As per police reports, five of them succumbed to their injuries, while the others, who sustained serious injuries, were rushed to hospital,” an officer said. The group consisted of educators and family members on a leisure trip.
Initial reports stated that among the deceased were three female teachers, a minor girl, and the driver. The five others in critical condition are undergoing treatment.
The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
The district administration is coordinating with officials in West Bengal to facilitate communication with the victims’ families and arrange necessary support.
