The Damodar Valley Corporation dams have scaled down combined discharge to 45,000 cusec this evening after their catchment areas recorded zero precipitation since yesterday.
The West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee ridiculed the Damodar Valley Corporation after the combined discharge by the upper dams reached to 70,000 cusec on last Friday and today, while leaving for troubled north Bengal she further renewed her ‘man-made’ charge against the Damodar Valley Corporation.
The Maithon and the Panchet dams maintained 60,259 acre-feet and 74,147 acre-feet of water outflow from their reserves today that was 66,834 acre-feet and 72,720 acre-feet respectively yesterday.
“Since the rain has ceased, we have started stepping down water discharge, accordingly. Our both the dams however have water reserves beyond their normal capacities,” said Sanjeev Kumar, member secretary, Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee this evening.
The combined discharge by the dams was 55,000 cusec whole day, which was dropped by 10,000 cusec further at 6 p.m. today with Maithon’s discharge brought down significantly to 13,000 cusec and that of Panchet dam at 32,000 cusec.
