Kalyani: A team from IISER Kolkata has developed ‘friendly bacteria' that can safely and effectively fight cancer. The institute is developing a detection system, capable of monitoring the progress of therapy, marking a new frontier in the combined therapeutic and diagnostic — or ‘theranostic' — approach to cancer treatment.
An 11-member team, under the head of the biological sciences department, Supratim Datta, will showcase Novel Bacterial Cancer Therapy at the iGEM Grand Jamboree in Paris in Oct-end. —Ashis Podda
