Trinamul Congress leader Derek O’Brien Tuesday highlighted the significance of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, which marked its 75th foundation day today. To commemorate this special occasion, a statue of Mother Teresa was unveiled outside the global headquarters of the organisation she founded in Kolkata.
“Today is the 75th foundation day of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity. Unveiling of Mother’s statue outside the global HQ of the organisation she founded in Kolkata. This is special. Very special,” O’Brien said on his WhatsApp channel, reflecting on the organisation’s remarkable journey.
The Missionaries of Charity, established on 7 October, 1950, has grown exponentially, with 754 homes in 138 countries and 5,076 nuns serving the poorest of the poor. The organisation’s superior general, Sister Mary Joseph, emphasised that Mother Teresa’s spirit and legacy continue to guide and inspire them.
Mother Teresa’s selfless service and compassion have left an indelible mark on humanity. Her organisation provides aid, shelter, and care to those in need, regardless of their background or faith. The Missionaries of Charity’s work is a testament to Mother Teresa’s unwavering commitment to serving the poor and marginalised.
As the organisation celebrates its 75th foundation day, it is a poignant reminder of Mother Teresa’s words: “This is what our people need. They need your hands to serve them, and they need your heart to love them.” The Missionaries of Charity continues to uphold this philosophy, touching lives and bringing hope to countless individuals worldwide.
