Kolkata: MG Select is eyeing number one spot in luxury electric vehicle (EV) sales, overtaking German carmakers BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Speaking to TOI, MG Select interim head Milind Shah said the company already climbed to the number two spot in Sept with sales of 213 luxury cars and was targeting the top spot by the end of the year and definitely by the first quarter of 2026.
"At present, the luxury EV market is 600 units a month. We did 213 units last month. In the Rs 60 lakh and above category, we are already the largest luxury EV brand. With the addition of the Kolkata outlet and Jaipur lined up in the next couple of months, we should be able to become the biggest OEM player in the segment," said Shah.
At present, BMW is the leading player with sales of around 300 units in September, followed by MG Select.
Mercedes-Benz follows, with Volvo and Audi trailing behind.
While MG Select has two offerings at present, the MG Cyberster that does 0 to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds, and the Presidential Limousine MG M9 that boasts the longest and the widest cabin in the segment, the next car to be launched under the MG Select brand is likely to be an SUV.
"We will launch one product each year and will continue to be distinct in terms of offering and performance. The focus will be on new energy, electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid," Shah added.
