  • Kolkata: The city received some sharp showers on Thursday and remained partly cloudy due to the impact of a cyclonic circulation over southern Bangladesh.

The system is set to weaken, though rain will continue in Kolkata and other south Bengal districts until Sunday.

From Oct 12, there will be a significant dip in rainfall across south Bengal, said officials at the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

"With the monsoon in its last lap in this region, rain will reduce considerably from Saturday. Sporadic rain will continue in Kolkata and the surrounding districts over the next three days, especially in the coastal areas. From Oct 12, there will be a sharp drop in rainfall across south Bengal, and it will reduce further from the next day. Since the monsoon is in withdrawal mode across north India, this region, too, will start witnessing a decline in rain," said Sourish Bandopadhyay, weather scientist at RMC.
